A Heartwarming Maternity & Family Session at Hurricane Valley Park
Some photography sessions feel a little more meaningful than others. Not necessarily because everything goes perfectly or because the location is ‘extraordinary’, but because of the people, the memories, and the story behind the photographs.
This family maternity session at Valley Park in Hurricane, West Virginia, was one of those sessions for me.
A Beautiful Location for my Family Session
Hurricane Valley Park is one of my favorite locations for family photography because it offers so much variety in one place! There are multiple backdrops and areas to work with, which means we can create a gallery that feels diverse without having to rush from one location to another.
For a maternity and family photography session, I love having that flexibility. We can capture traditional family portraits, more intimate moments between parents, individual photos with the children, and plenty of candid images! All while keeping the session relaxed and fun.
Capturing a Family of Four Before Baby Number Three
This session included Mom and Dad, their sweet 9-year-old daughter, and their energetic 2-year-old.
And, of course, there was one very special person already making an appearance (their third and final baby, growing right in Mom’s belly.)
We captured a variety of combinations throughout the session. Mom and Dad had photos together, each parent had individual moments with the girls, and we made sure to capture the sisters together as well.
Their 2-year-old definitely had her own ideas about how the session should go, which is honestly part of what makes photographing families so much fun. Family photos don’t have to be perfectly posed from beginning to end. Sometimes the best photographs happen when children are simply allowed to be themselves.
One of my favorite parts was watching the 9-year-old interact with her little sister. She was so sweet with her, and those little moments of sibling connection are exactly the kinds of memories I want families to have preserved.
A Full-Circle Moment for Me
There was another reason this particular maternity session felt especially meaningful.
I used to work with Mom about 12 years ago.
We hadn’t spoken in years, so reconnecting with her after all that time and having her choose me to photograph such an important chapter in her family’s life was very special.
It felt like a full-circle moment.
There’s something really heartwarming about getting to see someone you knew years ago now raising a family of their own, preparing to welcome their third child, and then being trusted to document those memories for them.
That’s one of the things I love most about photography. I’m not just taking pictures. I’m getting invited into little pieces of people’s lives, and sometimes those connections come back around in the most unexpected ways.
What I Want Your Family Photography Experience to Feel Like

Find a photographer who is willing to listen.
Find someone who wants to capture the moments that matter to your family—not just check a list of poses.
And most importantly, find someone who makes you feel comfortable, happy, and unhurried.
That’s the experience I want to create for my clients.
I don’t want your family session to feel like something you have to rush through. I want you to have space to laugh, interact with your children, enjoy your partner, and simply be together. I’ll guide you when you need direction, but I’ll also let the natural moments happen.
